Nakuru Town is 157 kilometers northwest of Nairobi. Nakuru Kenya is the fourth largest town in the country. Nakuru was started in 1900 as a resting camp by the Uganda Railway builders before they started the climb of the Rift Valley’s Westen or Londiani Escarpment. Nakuru city is located in the Great Rift Valley, a large geological trench that runs through the eastern part of Africa. The town sits at an elevation of 1,758 meters (5,774 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest towns in Kenya.

The climate in Nakuru city is typically temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius (59 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit). History of Nakuru Town
Nakuru city is located 160 km Northwest of Nairobi and is the fourth largest urban center in Kenya after Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu.
Nakuru is situated at an altitude of 1859m above sea level and it is within the region of the Great Rift Valley whose formation gave rise to a unique natural structure.
The town started as a railway station on the Kenyan-Uganda railway at the turn of this century. The name ‘Nakuru’ is derived from Nakurro, the Maasai word meaning a ‘dusty place’.
Nakuru is located in an environmentally sensitive area. It is sandwiched between Lake Nakuru National Park to the south and the Menengai crater and its associated volcanic landscapes. Further to the North East of the town is the Bahati Escarpment forming the western fridge of the Aberdares Escarpment.

Afraha Stadium Nakuru
Afraha Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nakuru town. It is used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Nakuru All-Stars and Ulinzi Stars of the Kenyan Premier League.
The stadium holds 8,200 people and opened in 1948. The stadium is two kilometers from the famous Lake Nakuru National Park. Nakuru also offers a great experience and opportunity for local skaters that are easily notable in the Maasai market area on weekends. 10. Lord Egerton Castle

Stem Hotel is situated on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. It offers accommodation and conference facilities in a 20-acre garden. There are 106 en-suite rooms, made up of 48 singles, 57 doubles and 1 triple.
The Stem Oriental Restaurant specializes in Indian cuisine. The Stem Barbecue serves African dishes and local delicacies. Both restaurants are open to passers-by, as well as to hotel guests. The Stem Health Club has a swimming pool, gym, sauna, massage room, steam rooms and beauty salon. The club has a trainer who can assist with activities and facilities.
27. Mugunda House
Set on a plateau in the middle of a 2000-acre tea and coffee farm, Mugunda House has views across the Great Rift Valley. The house faces west, providing unforgettable views of the sun setting over the western wall of the valley.
The main house is an attractive colonial building. It has 6 en-suite double bedrooms. All rooms have large oval windows with views of the garden and are adorned with African artifacts. Breakfast, lunch, and sundowners are served on the long veranda. Dinner is served in the dining room. International and local cuisine is prepared from produce from the farm. There are 3 self-catering bandas.

28. Subukia Bandas
Dr Anne Spoerry, known locally as Mama Daktari, was Kenya’s most famous flying doctor. She came to Kenya from France after World War ll, learned to fly, and carried the Medicine by Air program into remote and inhospitable parts of the country. Her autobiography, They Call Me Mama Daktari, tells of her life and achievements.
Muringa Farm was Mama Daktari‘s former home. It is now a center for eco-friendly, responsible tourism. There are 6 en-suite bandas, made up of 3 doubles and 3 twins. Electricity is provided by solar power. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the restaurant banda on the lake, with views of birds and otters.
29. Maili Saba Camp
On the edge of the stunning, dormant Menengai Crater, Maili Saba Camp is a tranquil retreat. Guests can do game drives in the nearby Lake Nakuru National Park or can simply relax and enjoy the views from the camp.
There are 10 en—suite tents, made up of 8 doubles and 2 family tents. The tents have stone floors and are shaded by thatched roofs. They are adorned with attractive artefacts and kerosene—style lanterns, and have verandas overlooking the crater.
There is also a cottage that can accommodate 6 pax, with stone walls and thatched roof. The cottage has 1 master en – suite double bedroom, 2 twins, bathroom, sitting room, kitchen and veranda. The main building houses the restaurant, bar and lounge with open fireplace.

30. Gogar Farm
Gogar Farm is a 4,000 – acre working farm that provides an opportunity to experience real Kenyan farm life. The farmhouse was built by the current owner’s grandfather in about 1920; part of it was originally owned by Denys Finch Hatton of Out of Africa tame. The original part of the farmhouse still stands today.
There are 6 original thatched houses dating back to 1930, positioned around the lawn and gardens. Each house has a double or twin en-suite bedroom; some also have a living room.
The main house has a large open plan sitting and dining room with a selection of books, WiFi, a children’s room with TV and a long veranda overlooking the garden. There is also Guests are welcome to have a tour of the farm, which has dairy, beet and crops.
31. Kembu Cottages Campsite and Farmstay
In the lovely grounds of a 900 – acre farm, Kembu offers a collection of characterful cottages. With a wide variety of activities, dining options, and facilities, Kembu has something for everyone.
The romantic Acacia Cottage has an en-suite double room and an attractive conservatory. The Yellow Room has an en-suite twin room.
Kenana Cottage has 2 en-suite twin rooms, a living room, a kitchen, a veranda and private garden. Albizia Cottage has an en—suite double room, en-suite twin room, living room, kitchen, veranda and private garden. Mutati Cottage has a double room, twin room, living room, kitchen, bathroom and balcony. All these cottages are hosted for meals at the farmhouse, or can dine privately.
