Kitale Kenya: Kitale town is an agricultural town in western Kenya situated between Mount Elgon National Park and the Cherengani Hills Forest at an elevation of around 7,000 feet (2,100 m).
Kitale Kenya is the administrative centre of the Trans-Nzoia county. The main cash crops grown in the area are sunflower, tea in Kenya, coffee in Kenya, Pyrethrum farming, seed beans and seed maize. It is a market town for the local agricultural area and is known for the Kitale Museum and an agroforestry centre. Saiwa Swamp National Park lies near the Kitale Kenya.

Kitale is an agricultural town in northern rift valley Kenya situated between Mount Elgon and the Cherangani Hills at an elevation of around 1,900 metres (6,200 ft). Its population is 106,187 as of 2009.. Kitale is the capital town of Trans Nzoia County.
The National Museum of Western Kenya is located at Kitale. It is a natural history museum and was originally created by Lt Col. Hugh Stoneham in 1926

History of Kitale Town

Kitale town was founded in 1908 by white settlers. A branch line of the Uganda Railway from Eldoret reached Kitale Kenya in 1926 which promoted growth of the town. It is among the most diverse towns in the country.

Kitale Kenya is smaller than Eldoret and not much more exciting, but has more going for it from a traveller’s point of view, primarily as the base for visits to Mount Elgon, Kenya’s second giant volcanic cone and the superb, very underrated hiking country in the area. It’s also an obvious springboard for the Cherangani Hills and a straightforward departure point for trips to the west side of Lake Turkana. There’s a national park nearby – the little-known but easily accessible Saiwa Swamp, which can only be explored on foot. In addition, the town also has two museums and a couple of other sites to visit.

Kitale Town People

Kitale town present population is a mix of tribes, including Nandi, Pokot, Marakwet, Sabaot and Sengwer, as well as a few Luhya tribe, Kisii tribe and Kikuyu tribe and an influential Asian community. Like most towns in the Rift Valley and Western provinces, it was seriously affected by the post-election clashes of 2007–8, but managed to make a swift recovery.
